SITKA has expanded its gear range with a new footwear line, introducing the Ascent GORE-TEX – lightweight and waterproof shoes that combine the mobility of trail running shoes with the stability characteristic of hiking boots. The new model is designed for training, hiking, hunting, and movement in challenging terrain.
SITKA has been best known for its technical apparel for hunting and working in harsh weather conditions, while the new Ascent series marks the brand's entry into the technical footwear segment.
Lightweight footwear with boot-like stability
The concept behind the Ascent GORE-TEX is an attempt to combine two traditionally distinct footwear categories. From trail running shoes, the new model adopts low weight, flexibility, and more dynamic movement, while from hiking and tactical boots, it inherits stability and additional foot protection.
SITKA states that the Ascent GORE-TEX is designed not only for moving on trails but also for traversing mud, wet rocks, and uneven terrain. This approach aligns with an increasingly popular trend in the technical footwear market – choosing lighter footwear over heavier traditional boots in situations where mobility and fast movement are more important.
GORE-TEX Invisible Fit membrane
The waterproof version of Ascent uses a GORE-TEX Invisible Fit construction, designed to provide full waterproofing while maintaining the lightest and most flexible shoe construction possible.
SITKA notes that the membrane system is integrated directly into the upper part of the shoe, thereby maintaining good breathability and avoiding the feeling characteristic of bulkier membrane boots. This can be especially relevant in the Latvian climate, where one route often involves wet grass, mud, puddles, and precipitation.
AXIS-FIT foot stabilization system
Another essential element of the Ascent design is SITKA's AXIS-FIT system, designed to secure the foot more tightly and provide stability when moving on uneven terrain, without losing the feel of a lightweight shoe. This is particularly important when moving across slopes or on rocky and uneven surfaces, where an overly soft shoe might not provide sufficient foot support.
EVA midsole with TPU reinforcements
The Ascent GORE-TEX uses a molded EVA midsole that provides cushioning and helps reduce impact during prolonged movement. TPU reinforcements are also integrated into the midsole to increase structural stability.
As a result, SITKA strives to maintain the cushioning characteristic of trail running shoes while providing better foot control in situations where equipment needs to be carried or prolonged movement occurs off established trails.
Additional protection for toe and heel
TPU protectors are used in the toe and heel areas of the shoe, designed for additional protection in areas where technical footwear typically receives the most mechanical impacts. The upper is made of a material that combines abrasion resistance with breathability. The shoe also features a closed tongue construction, which helps reduce sand, pebbles, and other debris from entering the shoe.
Apex Tread System sole for multi-directional movement
One of the most distinctive features of Ascent is SITKA's Apex Tread System outsole. Its tread uses multi-directional lugs to provide grip for both forward movement, as well as traversing and descending slopes.
The manufacturer specifically highlights grip on wet rocks and in deep mud – conditions where a traditional unidirectional tread design does not always provide optimal control. This multi-directional tread approach is particularly interesting for users who move not only on prepared trails but also in forests, on slopes, or in other technically challenging terrain.
